Organiser's Report

The Humbledon Outdoors Activities Association is no longer able to organise or participate in the event.

Sincere thanks are offered to Connor Turner for working with the previous organiser (David Mills) to

get the race going again, through his contacts with the Bradford and Bingley Canoe Club and Paddle UK.

The weather was fine and sunny, with no wind, but the water level was about the lowest we have ever seen.

Although it was bump and scrape in parts, all the competitors showed considerable skill in reading the water,

and there were no capsizes. All finished in good time.

Thanks go to Ann Watson at Finchale Abbey Farm for providing soup and a bun for the competitors at a discounted rate.

It was disappointing, that despite more than usual advertising of the event, including being on the national Paddle UK website, the was no participation by any local club. It has been suggested that the VE day 80 events being held all over the country during this weekend, may have been partially responsible for this.

Many thanks to Keith and Audrey Wickham at Gate7 for their continued support and for providing the trophies.

We plan to run the race again, next year.

Monday 4th May 2026, 11.00am start.

David Mills & Connor Turner, co-organisers.
